Over the years, the Government of Meghalaya has been implementing a number of programs that have directly touched the lives of the citizens. The Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) the press and publicity wing of the Government of Meghalaya and the nodal agency for dissemination of information on policies and programs of the Government wishes to be in constant two-way contact with the citizens. To achieve this aim the Government of Meghalaya has now, in a bold move, launched an innovative, first-of-its-kind, project to reach out to the people of the state through a robust two way communication system.
Up until now, the state had Fixed Loudspeaker System (FLS) for the purpose of dissemination of information to citizens. It was a wired system and was implemented in Shillong, Jowai and Tura. This system, however, had limited reach especially in the remote locations of the state. Now, the DIPR is looking forward to replace the old Fixed Loudspeaker based System with a newer solution that is better in reach and coverage but will also receive valuable feedback from the citizens on various schemes along with initiating a focused approach with respect to on-time redressal of grievances. To achieve this aim, it is required to establish a dedicated communication system.
The Meghalaya Integrated Information (Mii) is a project put forward by the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma and implementation was carried out under his leadership along with the team officials and staff of DIPR. This project has been conceptualized to empower the citizens of Meghalaya with the knowledge on various schemes/policies of the state government and also to receive constructive feedback from citizens. This system is intended to be citizen centric and citizens would be in a position to receive the information through Mass Information Dissemination System and provide feedback and lodge grievances through the grievance redressal mechanism. The system employs state-of -the art technology in which the entire state would be connected through the use of loudspeakers, using the internet.
